A six-day training entitled "Capacity Enhancement of National Government Agencies on Hazards, Risk and Exposure Database Development through the Use of the REDAS Software" last September 5 - 10, 2016 for the staffs of different National Government aAencies (NGAs). The training was held at the Brentwood Suites, Quezon City. The aims of  the training were 1) to teach NGA staffs with the various modules of REDAS and 2) to explore possible levels of harmonization in exposure data gathering and multi-hazard impact data collection.

There was a total of 48 participants during the training. Twelve (12) came from DSWD, 9 from DPWH, 8 from DILG, 6 from CCC, 2 participants each from OCD, DOH, HLURB, MGB, PAGASA and PHIVOLCS, and one from DBM. The participants were provided with REDAS version 2.9. A total of 47 REDAS software license keys was issued during the said event.

The first day of the training covered the introduction of PHIVOLCS, installation and orientation on the basic features of REDAS Software, as well as lectures on hazards and basic map reading. The succeeding days of the training covered lectures ranging from Building Risk Database, Earthquake Risk Assessment, the use of SQLite as a Relational and Spatial Database System, and Seismic Hazard Assessment. In addition, software such as Exposure Database Module (EDM), SQLite and Quantum GIS, and the EDM and MyTracks in Android devices were also installed during the training. The participants were taught how to use the EDM in Android Devices for conducting building survey. Earthquake risk assessment methodologies were also taught in the training, as well as identifying building earthquake damage levels for conducting earthquake risk assessment.  A workshop exploring the modes of exposure data collection being employed by various NGAs including data attributes, frequency of collection and software used was facilitated by Mr. Ishmael C. Narag of PHIVOLCS.  Another question tackled is the manner how there agencies were gathering post-damage information and how are these are being collected.  The results show that there is willingness to share data as long as a MOA is signed between agencies. There was also a suggestion to create a TWG to be led by OCD on harmonization of data collection and establishment of standardized damage collection methodology.

Speakers and facilitators during the training were Director Renato U. Solidum, Jr. , Deputy Director Bartolome C. Bautista, Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Ishmael C. Narag, Angelito G. Lanuza, Analyn D. Aquino, Jayvie H. Nadua, Ruffy R. Villanueva,  Dave Andrei V. Rivera, Anace Jenica P. De Vera (MGB), Greggue Ann Lyza T. Castro, Yvan F. Pagdonsolan, John Ted S. Sison, Jan Lawrence L.
